Dental Care for Infants

Gentle, Expert Dental Care for Your Baby’s Bright Beginning
At Columbus Pediatric Dentistry, we understand that your baby’s health is your top priority—and it’s ours, too. We offer compassionate and specialized infant dental care to give your child a healthy, confident start in life. As a parent, you want the very best for your little one, and that’s exactly what we provide.
When Should My Baby See a Dentist?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends bringing your child to the dentist by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth appearing. These early visits will help establish a dental home for your child to prevent dental problems, ease future visits, and support your child’s development.
Why Infant Dental Care Is So Important
Baby teeth actually play a crucial role in your child’s ability to chew, speak, and smile. They also guide the proper alignment of permanent teeth. Our team focuses on prevention and education, helping parents understand how to protect their baby’s smile from the very beginning.

What to Expect at Your Baby’s First Dental Visit
At Columbus Pediatric Dentistry, we strive to make every visit warm, positive, and stress-free. Dr. Harvey takes a gentle, reassuring approach to help you and your baby feel at ease. During your baby’s first visit, we will:
- Gently examine your child’s teeth and gums
- Talk with you about feeding, pacifier use, and thumb-sucking
- Show you how to clean your baby’s mouth properly
- Provide tips on teething, fluoride, and nutrition
- Answer all your questions about your baby’s dental development

How to Care for Your Baby’s Teeth at Home
Dr. Harvey recommends starting oral hygiene early:
- Clean your baby’s gums with a damp cloth after feedings
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a tiny smear (the size of a rice grain!) of fluoride toothpaste once the first tooth appears
- Avoid putting your baby to bed with a bottle – especially with milk, juice, formula, and Pediasure
- Schedule your baby’s first dental appointment by their first birthday
If you ever feel unsure, Dr. Harvey and our team are here to guide and support you every step of the way.
