FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

At what age should my child visit the dentist?

We recommend your child visit the dentist by age 1 or within 6 months of their first tooth erupting. Visit our First Visit page.

Does my child need to see a pediatric dentist?

Pediatric dentists receive specialized training to care specifically for children’s dental needs, from infancy through adolescence. Visit our What Makes Us Different page.

Are baby teeth really that important?

Yes! Baby teeth help with chewing, speech, and holding space for adult teeth. Keeping them healthy is essential. Visit our Preventive Dentistry page.

How can I help set up my child for success at the dentist?

Preparation and positivity at home go a long way. We’ll guide you through what to expect and how to make dental visits fun. Visit our First Visit page.

Will I Be Allowed to Go Back With My Child?

At Columbus Pediatric Dentistry, we want you to feel comfortable and informed every step of the way. Our goal is to create a calm, trusting environment where your child feels safe and confident.

Visit our Office Policies page.

Can My Child’s Cavity Be Treated at the First Appointment?

In most cases, we do not complete treatment (like fillings) at your child’s first visit. Dr. Harvey’s priority is to make the first appointment a positive and stress-free experience—especially if it’s your child’s first time in a dental setting. This visit is designed to help build trust and allow your child to become comfortable in the office.

In certain situations, such as dental trauma or pain, same-day treatment may be provided. However, for routine cavities, we will schedule a separate appointment. This gives everyone (you, your child, and our team) time to prepare and ensure the calmest and effective environment for care.

Visit our First Visit page for additional information.

Do You Take My Dental Insurance?

Yes, we accept most insurance plans. We will file all primary insurance claims and guide you through our process of working with your specific plan. Although we are not under contract with private insurance companies, you may still utilize your dental insurance in most circumstances. For more details, please visit our Finances & Insurance page or give our office a call. Our team is here to answer your questions and help you navigate the process with ease.
